BSc IT blackbook project
In BSc IT the final-year project is a working software system and a report, the blackbook, that documents it from requirements to testing. Examiners read the report before the viva, so its diagrams and test cases need to match what you demo.

Chapters of a BSc IT project report
After the front matter (cover page, certificate, declaration, acknowledgement, abstract, table of contents), a typical BSc IT report has these chapters. Your department’s guidelines come first where they differ.
Chapter 1: Introduction
Background, objectives, purpose, scope and applicability, achievements and how the report is organised.
Chapter 2: Survey of Technologies
Each technology or tool you used: what it is, why you chose it and the alternatives.
Chapter 3: Requirements and Analysis
Problem definition, functional and non-functional requirements, Gantt chart, hardware and software requirements, use case diagram.
Chapter 4: System Design
Modules, database schema and ER diagram, class, activity and sequence diagrams, algorithms, UI design and security.
Chapter 5: Implementation and Testing
Implementation approach, key code, unit, integration and user testing, and a test case table.
Chapter 6: Results and Discussion
Test reports and results, and a step-by-step user guide.
Chapter 7: Conclusion
Conclusion and significance, limitations and future scope.

What examiners look for
- Keep the system design chapter honest to your code: the ER diagram should match your real tables, column for column.
- Write test cases as a table (ID, input, expected, actual, result). Examiners look for it.
- Screenshots of the working system go in the implementation chapter, each with a figure number and caption.
- Most departments want the project guide’s certificate signed before binding, so finish the front matter early.

Questions
How many pages should a BSc IT blackbook be?
Commonly 60 to 100 pages including diagrams and screenshots, but your department circular decides. Quality of the design and testing chapters matters more than length.
Which diagrams does a BSc IT project report need?
Usually an ER diagram, a data flow diagram (level 0 and 1), a use case diagram, and class or activity diagrams depending on the system. Gantt charts often go in the planning chapter.
